Lyrics

The pain I thought I felt before
Doesn’t count anymore
We both made promises meant to last
We fell apart, happened so fast
Cuz I gave my best and my worst
But darlin’, your name’ll be the first
Thing that I forever think of
When I hear the word love

We’re the best thing we both ever had
How the hell did it go and get so bad
We grew apart, I want us back
Cuz our love is meant for the same path
Still the first thing I forever think of
Whenever I hear the word love

I still taste the air you breathe
Your touch a distant memory
I’ll tread this water as long as it takes
In hopes you still want the same
Cuz you’re the first thing I forever think of
Whenever I hear the word love

We’re the best thing we both ever had
How the hell did it go and get so bad
We grew apart, I want us back
Cuz our love is meant for the same path
Still the first thing I forever think of
Whenever I hear the word love

Is there a way we can make it back?
Cuz I don’t ever want to go back to this

We’re the best thing we both ever had
How the hell did it go and get so bad
We grew apart, I want us back
Cuz our love is meant for the same path
Still the first thing I forever think of
Whenever I hear the word love

We’re the best thing we both ever had
How the hell did it go and get so bad
We grew apart, I want us back
Cuz our love is meant for the same path
Still the first thing I forever think of
Whenever I hear the word love
Still the first thing I forever think of
Whenever I hear the word love

Story Behind The Song

I wrote this during the whole journey with CodiKrome.

My wife and I were just not seeing eye to eye on things.

And at the end of the day, I didn’t know what else to say about it.

It actually started out as a two liner in my notebook that I came back to later.

But as we were just going through it I just wrote
“The pain I thought I felt before
Doesn’t count anymore”

And that’s how it started. Because I felt like all the other petty BS fights and “pain” I thought I had in other relationships didn’t feel anything like the possibility that I might lose my wife.

So that’s where it started. And that’s kinda why it shifts away from that a little bit. The first verse is talking about that and how I’m as much to blame “gave my best and my worst”

But at the end of the day I needed something more than “Roses are red” type of stuff.

I tried to think of something beyond an “I love you”

And what I came up with is the fact that I can’t even hear the word “love” without thinking of her.

And that’s really the best thing I could think of to say to someone that you love.

So the rest of the song is really about that. Just telling her that I don’t like where we are. I want “us” back. Our love is still meant for the same path.

So that’s where this one came from.

I hope you like it!
