Lyrics

I lie awake in a dream
I wake up
Without knowin’ where I’m goin’
Or where I’ve been
Sometimes life seems made up
There’s no way of ever knowin’
When it all will end
So I step outside of my mind
I look inside where I lied
To myself again
But I know when I realize where I’m goin’
I’ll be halfway there
Where I’ve always been

I stand still
My mind starts to wander
While I wonder what it takes
To break through the clichés
The answer’s there
But questions still linger
While I try to put my finger
On it every day
I think I got it but I never really had it
I just had it but I lost it
It’s gone away
Sometimes I don’t know why I even try
I guess that’s why I always try
But only go halfway

Already halfway there
Halfway there
Halfway there

And I know that life’s little struggles
Are just pieces of the puzzle
Thrown into your way
But I can see the light through the tunnel
And I know that I am gonna
Make it through OK
Just need some time to myself
Open my eyes I realize
What everyone did say
The first step is always the hardest
I already got it started
I’m already halfway there

Halfway there
Halfway there

Story Behind The Song

So this song was originally called “Halfway”

I wrote the lyrics while I lived in the city. It was after I was done playing sports in college. And trying to figure out what I was going to do with my life. And kinda feeling like I’m stuck in the middle. Don’t know where I am. But I want to look at the positive side of it and know that I’m halfway to wherever the hell I’m going!

I originally wrote the music to this song as well. But Nature tweaked it into a little more ska type riff. Same chord progression. And then we used it on or demo and when we recorded it they added a standup bass and a trumpet…which was a cool touch.

This is the song that won awards for songwriting that originally sparked this whole thing. That’s why I decided to go with these lyrics first. I knew that they resonated with judges at some point on multiple occasions. So maybe they were good enough?
